Hello readers,
I’ve been SUCH a slacker about posting updates on this site. Though the days sometimes feel long, each night I suddenly find myself still up and running around midnight with a lot of to dos left on my list. Updating this blog is usually one of those undone to dos, but in an effort to live life in less of a blurry state, I’ve decided to take a few minutes each night and try to post what’s going on with us, the fun and adorable and frustrating things that Meg is doing, and any other general miscellany about our lives. The babe needs something to read about and criticize me for later, right? J
So these updates will be mainly for me, though I hope you enjoy reading about them. Don’t you feel special?
So, without further ado, here’s what our day looked like today:
This morning I woke to Meg screaming Ahhh!!! and shaking her crib, wanting to get Up, up, up! Confession: I lay in bed a while longer while she continued her protests. I wasn’t sure how early it was, and I can’t see the clock in the morning because I don’t wear my contacts when I sleep. And I’m not a morning person. It could be 6 am or 9 am, but the bottom line is: I don’t want to get up. Ever. Ever.
Lately George has been losing the battle of Who Can Ignore the Baby’s Cries the Longest (I listen to her whine all day—I have greater stamina), so he’s been getting her up first in the mornings. But today he left early for work, so I had to rescue the poor maiden from her prison. Lucky for me, the sweet smile and excitement that came over Meg’s face when I opened her door made it almost worth getting out of my very comfy bed.
It turned out to be a beautiful day, so Meg and I went to a friends’ pool and met some other moms and kids for a fun swim and lunch. Meg strutted around in her bathing suit and sun hat and was quite adorable. (I love that she will wear a hat—a useful trait in both summer and winter.) She liked being in the pool okay, but was much more excited about standing on the edge and throwing things into the water. Then a friend with a baby showed up and it was all over. Meg, who can spot a Baby! at twenty paces, stood in the shade with baby Monroe for twenty minutes, just watching him and giggling when he smiled at her. Someone said, “Looks like Meg’s ready for a baby brother or sister!” To which I replied, “But Mommy’s not.” J
So we picknicked by the pool, and Meg scavenged from everyone’s plates. (She always says Please in a way that’s pretty hard to say no to.) She also got very distressed when her friend Emmy was taken away from the group for a timeout. She tried to follow her, saying Emmy? Emmy! and was very happy when Emmy returned.
Yesterday George and I started painting our drab hallway, hoping to transform it into a cheery space. It’s going pretty well, which is largely due to George being very sweet and patient with me. When doing home improvement projects, I tend to be a raging perfectionist and George is, well, not. (We’ve had more than one fight about the best way to hang a picture.) And although I’m still not happy with the fact that the line is not completely straight where the walls meet the ceiling, I’m trying to let it go. But it drives me crazy. (And now I’ve exposed it. If you come to my house, don’t look in the corners of walls near the ceiling in the hallway!)
So that’s my day. Walls and paint. Babies and food. Now a comfy bed, and ear plugs in the morning. J

i love the part where George loses the battle of ignoring the cries the longest! so true. you also forgot to mention that you went to dinner with friends who kept your baby up an hour past her bedtime! :) sorry to get her off schedule, but we had a lot of fun hanging out.
I know! I ran out of steam before I got to that part . . . :)
