Idiom: under the weather (adj) 1. somewhat indisposed, slightly ill. 2. (Slang) intoxicated, drunk, suffering from a hangover.
Ok, so I've been in one of these conditions for the past several days (and no, it's not hungover :). What started out as a light cough and conjestion escalated over the weekend to hacking cough and general ickiness. The OJ wasn't working, so yesterday I finally went to the doctor.
Each time I go to the doctor, I get a weird guilty feeling and wonder if I'm just overreacting to my symptoms--especially when I have a bad cold. Should I be worried or just drink more liquids? Do I have a fever or is the heat on too high? I always wonder if the nurses and doctor are thinking, Great, here comes another one. Don't they know that there's nothing we can do for the common cold? Suck it up, lady, and make room for the people that are really sick.
So I walked into the doctor yesterday feeling truly crappy, but still wondering a little if I was overreacting. Imagine my surprise and immediate gratification to know that I had a 100.2 degree fever (this is way high for me, people!) and a nasty upper respiratory infection--with the possibility of pneumonia. I was both relieved and encouraged to know that I was justifiably sick (and could be cured) and not just a wuss. Hooray!
Two shots, chest x-rays, and prescription in hand, I walked out a confirmed sick person and not a crazy hypocrondriac. The steriod shot was pretty good, too, although my butt still hurts!
